Ale R.
(Class of 2026)
I’m from Mexico City, Mexico, I joined the Cross Country Running Team when I came to CRMS which was great. I love running, but I especially loved the community and the connection with the team. My favorite thing about CRMS is living in the dorms. I really enjoy sharing this spacing with friends I love, as well as how safe and comfortable they are and how it feels like a second home. I also love the trips we do; my favorite was our 10-day backpacking trip at the start of the school year.
Ben O.
(Class of 2024)
My name is Ben and I grew up here in Carbondale, CO. I am currently in my junior year at CRMS. I have been involved in several different active programs over my years here, like the bike, kayak, soccer, and XC running teams. I am also heavily involved in a competitive nordic ski program in Aspen called AVSC, and I spend most of the school year training with that program. Apart from standard academic classes for juniors, I am also currently taking AP environmental science, Spanish 4, algebra 2, and music.
Chantel Hope
(Class of 2023)
I'm from Florida, and I am a senior at CRMS. While at CRMS, I have been fortunate to be engaged in a culmination of artistic, academic, and outdoor activities. In addition to the insightful discussion-based classes, CRMS gives me great freedom through self-studies classes-- Multivariable Calculus and an individual scientific research project. Outside classes, I was captain of the cross-country team and have been involved in the Climbing, Nordic, and Soccer teams. In addition, I run two clubs, Walk the Talk and Environmental Club. Walk the Talk centers on community action, where over the years, we've fundraiser for topics ranging from indigenous issues to the Yemen Food Crisis and volunteered for our local food bank Lift Up. The CRMS Environmental Club, working closely with Conservation Colorado, has lobbied, phone banked, canvassed for representatives, and held lobbying and letter-writing activities. Students feel tied to environmental efforts strengthened by a close connection to nature embodied through trips, which I have been lucky to lead. From trips across mountain tops to conversations on Thoreau, CRMS has provided me with a thoughtful, well-rounded education.
Devin B.
(Class of 2025)
I'm from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Currently, I'm a sophomore at CRMS who loves to climb, ski, and mountain bike. I'm a member of the CRMS outing club, along with the climbing team and route-setting work crews. This year, I am the dorm head for the Roaring Fork House. That basically means I am the liaison between the students and the dorm parents. I've come to enjoy Spanish I and II, and living as a boarding student has brought me close to the CRMS community.
Jacob S.
(Class of 2024)
Lucy I.
(Class of 2024)
My name is Lucy, and I am a day student 11th grader from right here in Basalt, Colorado. There is so much to do on campus, but right now, I am joyfully involved in the CRMS Nordic Team, the Environmental Club, and Walk The Talk. I also started the Book Club and Philosophy Club. All the clubs meet weekly, so I am always doing something meaningful and fun! My favorite class is AP United States History, taught by Dave. I love it because it makes me stretch and grow the most as a person and a thinker. I have never been asked to write or think at such a high caliber, and it can be stressful and scary, but the reward is the most satisfying love of the class and the best feeling of knowledge and accomplishment. That said, all my classes are amazing and so engaging and interesting.
Makai Y.
(Class of 2023)
My name is Makai, and I am a day student from Carbondale, CO. I've been involved with the climbing team since freshman year, and I am the captain this year. My favorite class is Advanced Spanish which I am taking for the second year in a row. I love learning the language and appreciate that Dan switches up the curriculum, so students who return for another year of the class have the opportunity to continue learning. Additionally, after taking AP US History last year, I now teach the APUSH Review Sessions to help out students currently in the class. My favorite experience at CRMS was being a Wilderness Assistant Student Leader for the incoming students this year. I have also enjoyed giving tours to prospective students as a part of the A-Team, running with the cross-country team in the fall, and playing music in and outside of class.
Nina V.
(Class of 2025)
My name is Nina, and I’m a tenth-grade day student. I've lived in Carbondale my entire life. I came to CRMS as a self-proclaimed overzealous environmentalist and fostered that passion by joining the CRMS Environmental Club and Global Connections Education Initiative. I am always excited to spend time in nature and am on the CRMS bike team in the fall and spring. I am a competitive nordic skier with AVSC, and play the cello (badly). I love my Honors English class because of its perspective on gender inequality in old literature and its focus on the broader sides of writing in history. I also find great joy in the arts, especially my painting and drawing class, for the freedom they bring.
Tiernan P.
(Class of 2024)
Tiernan is a current Junior and has grown up as a faculty child on campus for his entire life. He is an avid member of the CRMS bike team and nordic team. Tiernan is focused on balancing the academic rigor and opportunity of CRMS and his love for sports. This has proven difficult but not unmanageable. This year, Tiernan will be representing USA Ski Mountaineering in races across the country and internationally as well.
